Lily is home

So, we had a terrible accident in the family last weekend. The family was about to load up to go to Cleveland, TN for the day on Saturday. I had Evan in his carseat and Elizabeth had a couple bags behind me. I opened the door and Lily ran outside. I had circled around to the side of the car (not more than 2 feet from the door) and before I could get Evan in the car I saw a big black truck go zooming by, and sweet Lily crying.

I put Evan down and went to see what had happened. Lily had heard or seen something and had ran across the road to the grass on the other side. She was coming back over the road when the truck came zooming up over the hill and hit her and kept going. She was laying the street. One paw was up in the air twisting around, her head on the pavement, and she was crying.

I yelled something crazy and ran down there as fast as I could and scooped her up. There was so much blood coming from her mouth. We rushed her to the vet where she stayed for 4 days.

We now know that she was only hit in the jaw – she lost teeth on the bottom of the left side of her mouth and has a slight fracture in a bone in her jaw there. Otherwise, she is ok. She has a small wire in her mouth to help the bone reset, but she is eating and moving around now. The only worrisome thing – two nights in a row she has woken up by screaming uncontrollably. We are unsure why this is – could be bad dreams – could be medicine wearing off – we are not sure, but it is terrifying!

In any case, we feel so blessed to have our little poodle back home, safe and sound. Things could have turned out so much differently, and we are thankful that she is ok!

Evan’s First 365

Elizabeth and I are planning to take at least one photo of Evan every day for his first year and make a book at the end of year 1.

While I cant promise that there will be a blog post every day, we will try and upload them as we can for you to see. While there are SO many photos from Day 2, I wanted to select a few to share.

Day 2 for Evan was a big one. To cap off his second night with us, Evan, me Elizabeth and Uncle Eric watched the Packers win their second playoff game. I got a Packer hat from Jeff this year (our WI family LOVES the Packers) and since I have worn it, they have won every game. For that night, Evan and I switched out wearing the hat (haha), and the results = big Packer victory. I think Evan and I can get them to the Super Bowl. I also have photos of me, eric, wes & evan and Eric doing the Thundercats HO! with Evan in tow.

Day 3 was Evans big coming home day. I will never forget driving away from the hospital with Elizabeth feeling like we had just robbed a bank. We couldn’t believe they were letting us leave with him! She looked at me and said, “Wow….” and I replied, “I know…what did they just do!?!” Evan is a wonderful blessing and it was so amazing to bring him home to his own room. Amongst these photos are Elizabeth and I with Dr. Gernt, us leaving the hospital, the first naps at home, Lily meeting Evan, and Evan meeting his GG.

Day 4 has been quiet. We haven’t gotten a great deal of sleep. Since Elizabeth has been nursing, Evan has been hungry like every hour. This, as you can imagine, disrupts sleeping schedules! Today’s photo is of Evan where he spent most of today – on our bed, in his boppy pillow with a blanket his GG made for him.

New Hat

We got one of the hats in that Elizabeth and I decided to buy for Evan. It is a cute little bear hat that will be fantastic for pictures. We really wanted an idea of what it would look like on, but unfortunately it obviously would not fit on either of our heads. However, it was a perfect fit for Lily. After a little struggling, I got it on her.

I don’t think she liked it very much.

Christmas Tree Reeemix!

So we decided to film our Christmas tree decoration this year. It was about 30 minutes of footage. I sped it up and made a 3 minute video for you. The results…classic.

Next year, maybe we will do it in 3D.

Haha.

Not.

December Update!

So here are the first peeks at Evan’s room! It isn’t finished yet – I just got a small painting for the wall – which you will see, and we are planning to paint a brown border behind it on the wall. We have a few other things to do – but I wanted to go ahead and post where we are so far!

Below is a quick video update – shows Evan’s room!

The poodle has a mind of her own…

With the football season underway and playoffs coming up, I wanted to upload a photo specifically for Jeff and all of the Wisconsin family. This is for you. Really.

Bump Gets a Sweet Ride – Week 17

This week we received our City Mini stroller! I was so excited because this thing is just plain…cool. You can collapse the whole thing with one hand and carry it like a brief case. It only weighs like 7 lbs., so it is very lightweight. This is exciting because Elizabeth will have no trouble handling the stroller if I am not there with her. We picked the olive green color – aside from being gender neutral, I think it was the best color around – for either a boy or a girl. It looks even better in person and I have already given Lily a ride around the living room to test it out. She enjoyed it! Below are a few photos I took with my phone after I got it set up.

Recently a new craving has developed: Smores. Smores you say? Yes, smores.

She found out for the first time that they could be made in a microwave and you should have seen her excitement. We have made them a few times since, and every now and then when I go in to the kitchen, I see the marshmallows or the graham crackers out. Hints. Pregnant women are not subtle.

Peaches are still number one though (see THIS post), and we got some good news on those this week. A couple weeks ago I went out on a “peach-run” and came back with a slightly different jar. Apparently Dole (the peach company), switched the jar to a green lid (over the blue lid), and increased the peach size while decreasing the peach quantity. This was not a popular change at my house. I went back this week on another peach-run to find that the blue lid peaches were back in stock. Elizabeth was overjoyed and requested that I go back to the store and “stock up,” as she called it, just in case it was a fluke.

Below is Week 17 heartbeat – it looks like we are holding strong at 160 a minute!
Baby – 17 Weeks – Heartbeat

Here are a few photos of Elizabeth for Week 17. As you can see there is a big difference this week…amazing!

Lily is 9!

Yesterday was Lily’s big birthday. We celebrated by taking her to the groomer and having having mexican night. She was excited to get a dingo after dinner. Jeff and Peggy left today for a five week long missions trip! We are planning to make many stops by the house to check on Ralph. Eric gets back in Tuesday and I have been waiting for that for a week now. It is so fun when he is here.

More soon!

Alex
